In the summer of 2014 Magali, founder of Het Faire Oosten – started with a mission.
“I believe that fast fashion and cheap mass production are no longer a possibility. Not for the planet, not for ourselves. It’s time to change the way we consume too. We shouldn’t underestimate the enormous power we have to positively shape our environment through small changes in our daily routines and the people, initiatives and brands we choose to support.”
With that in mind, Het Faire Oosten – ‘House of Impact’ – was born and has since then grown into a department store with the largest selection of fair fashion in Amsterdam and surroundings, accessories, jewellery, interior design, home textiles & tableware, an extensive body & mind collection, food & drinks, baby gifts, books and stationery, and much more. You will never find the same collection of products, both from acknowledged brands and brave start-ups. The clientele? Everybody is, and will always be, welcome in our House. We are promoting a culture of inclusivity – that says enough.

Our mission is to encourage people to live and consume more sustainably and create appreciation of craftsmanship. We take part in the creation of the positive innovative landscape by supporting changemakers that truly are making a meaningful difference to the world. Changemakers with an authentic and honest story and products to match. We choose brands that are taking innovative steps towards a more sustainable and fair future. You can trust us to select and curate everything in our department store in Amsterdam-East and webshop with great care. We ask critical questions about the whole picture: starting with the materials of the products, what the work conditions of the makers are and how transport is organised. Only goods that are produced with respect for the environment and the people who make them belong in this store.
