NOC*NSF (Netherlands Olympic Committee*Netherlands Sports Federation) is the national umbrella organization for organized sport in the Netherlands and the Dutch National Olympic Committee. Formed through the merger of the Netherlands Olympic Committee and the Netherlands Sports Federation, NOC*NSF functions as the coordinating body between sports federations, the Dutch government, municipalities, commercial partners, and international sport organizations. As the recognized National Olympic Committee it is responsible for the Dutch delegation to the Olympic Games, Youth Olympic Games, European Games and other multi-sport events, and for supporting elite athletes in their preparation for those competitions. NOC*NSF also serves as the national coordinating federation for grassroots and organized sport, representing a network of member national sports federations and local sport clubs across the country. Core business activities of NOC*NSF center on elite sport support and national sport development. On the elite side the organization develops and manages national high-performance programs, provides direct support services for athletes and coaches (including training programs, talent identification, coaching development and sports science support), and oversees selection and preparation of teams for Olympic and multi-sport events. NOC*NSF operates TeamNL as the national brand for Dutch teams at major events and coordinates logistics, accreditation, medical services, and team management during international competitions. It also distributes central funding to elite programs in partnership with public funders, commercial sponsors and sport-specific federations. On the community and governance side, NOC*NSF acts as a membership federation for the country’s recognized national sports federations and works to strengthen sport organizations at provincial and local levels. Activities include advising and supporting member federations on governance, legal and financial matters; delivering education and certification programs for coaches, referees and sport administrators; promoting integrity in sport including anti-doping, safe-sport policies and safeguarding initiatives; and producing research, policy guidance and best-practice resources for clubs and federations. NOC*NSF engages in advocacy with the national government and local authorities to secure public investment in sport infrastructure, youth participation programs and long-term athlete development pathways. Key services and programs provided by NOC*NSF include athlete support services (financial grants, access to high-performance centers, sports medicine and physiotherapy collaborations, and psychosocial support), coach and leader education (national certification frameworks and continuing professional development), integrity and anti-doping services (education, testing coordination and policy enforcement in line with international standards), and operational services for events (logistics, delegation management and TeamNL branding). The organization also maintains knowledge and development initiatives aimed at increasing sports participation among youth and underrepresented groups, and works on projects to improve the accessibility and quality of local sports clubs. NOC*NSF is active in facility development and high-performance infrastructure through a close relationship with the national training center at Papendal, which serves as a hub for elite training, research and education in sport. Through partnerships with universities, applied research institutes and national federations, NOC*NSF promotes applied sports science and innovation in training methods, injury prevention, rehabilitation and performance analysis. While it is not a commercial technology company, NOC*NSF engages in and facilitates technology-driven innovation in sport (for example through collaboration on performance analysis tools, athlete monitoring systems, and sports science research) to enhance athlete preparation and sport development programs. As a national coordinating body, NOC*NSF’s responsibilities also include the allocation and stewardship of public and private funds to support Dutch sport, development and elite performance goals, and ensuring compliance with international Olympic and federation-level rules. The organization represents the Netherlands in international organizations such as the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and other global sport governance bodies. It develops multi-year strategic plans in consultation with member federations and stakeholders to balance goals for mass participation, grassroots club health, elite performance and social return on investment. NOC*NSF’s publicly stated mission and strategic objectives emphasize promoting sport participation, fostering top-level athletic performance and ensuring sport’s social and health benefits are accessible to the wider population. The organization places an explicit focus on integrity, safety and equal opportunity within sport, reflecting public expectations and international standards. Operationally, NOC*NSF combines program delivery, policy development, funding allocation and international representation to fulfill its mandate as the national voice and coordinating institution for organized sport in the Netherlands.
