Company Information

Company Name: Tinker Imagineers

Company Website: https://tinkerimagineers.com

Company Address: N/A

Tinker Imagineers is a small creative-technology studio that designs and engineers interactive, digital and mixed-reality experiences for public-facing environments. The company positions itself as a specialist in combining software, hardware and user-centred design to produce immersive exhibits, installations and branded experiences for museums, visitor attractions, cultural institutions, events and commercial clients. Its stated capabilities span the full project lifecycle, from early concept and UX design through prototyping, technical development, fabrication integration and on‑site installation and support. Core business activities - Concept & experience design: Tinker Imagineers works with clients to define visitor journeys, interaction models, and storytelling frameworks for physical and hybrid spaces. This typically includes user research, experience mapping, interaction design and production-ready design documentation that guides technical and fabrication teams. - Technical development & software engineering: The company develops bespoke interactive software systems for multi-touch displays, kiosks, projection-mapped surfaces, AR/VR headsets, mobile applications and sensor-driven installations. Their engineering work commonly covers real-time graphics, multimedia playback/management, content orchestration, interactive control systems and back-end services for analytics and content updates. - Hardware integration & prototyping: Tinker Imagineers undertakes rapid prototyping and systems integration, selecting and integrating sensors (such as motion, pressure, proximity), custom electronics, embedded controllers and networking hardware to achieve the intended interactions. Prototyping stages are used to validate interaction models and to refine performance before large-scale fabrication. - Immersive technologies: The company applies immersive technologies such as projection mapping, spatial audio, mixed reality (augmented and virtual reality), gesture and touch interfaces, and multi-user interactive systems to create environments where digital content and physical space are tightly coupled. - Production, installation & commissioning: Beyond design and software, Tinker Imagineers supports fabrication partners and takes responsibility for on-site installation, commissioning, testing and handover. Services commonly include system hardening, performance tuning, staff training and post-launch maintenance or service-level agreements. Main products and services Tinker Imagineers does not typically sell off-the-shelf consumer products; instead it delivers custom-built solutions tailored to each client project. Typical deliverables and product types include: - Interactive exhibits and displays: Custom software and hardware solutions for interactive kiosks, multi-touch tables, wall-mounted interactives and digital signage used in museums and attractions. - Projection-mapped installations: Time-based or reactive projection systems for galleries, museums or event spaces, including content management pipelines and show-control integration. - Mobile and companion apps: Native or web-based applications that extend a site experience to visitors’ personal devices, providing guided tours, augmented-reality overlays, content unlocking and data capture. - AR/VR experiences: Immersive virtual reality or augmented reality experiences developed for education, training, interpretation or entertainment needs, often tied to physical exhibits or storytelling objectives. - Sensor-driven, multi-user systems: Interactive spaces that respond to body movement, proximity or user inputs to enable collaborative experiences, gamified learning tools or engaging public installations. - Systems integration and control: Backend systems, dashboards and orchestration tools for content scheduling, device health monitoring and analytics reporting to help clients manage and iterate on deployed experiences. Technical specialties and approach Tinker Imagineers typically combines creative direction with technical engineering. Its teams are described as multidisciplinary, bringing together designers, developers, hardware engineers and project managers. Their technical stack is project-dependent but generally includes real-time media engines, content pipelines for large-format visuals, web and mobile application frameworks, and embedded systems for device control and connectivity. Emphasis is placed on iterative prototyping and user testing to validate interaction concepts before committing to final fabrication. Client types and sectors The company predominantly services cultural and public-facing sectors: museums, science centres, heritage sites, visitor attractions, festivals and brand activations. It also works with corporate and commercial clients seeking immersive or experiential solutions for events, showrooms and retail environments. Projects vary from short-term event installations to long-term, permanent exhibits that require ongoing maintenance and support. Project delivery and partnerships Tinker Imagineers frequently works in collaboration with exhibit designers, fabricators, audiovisual integrators and museum curators. On larger projects the company typically takes responsibility for the interactive and digital elements while coordinating closely with physical fabrication and content-production partners. They offer project management, integration testing and post-installation support to ensure systems operate reliably in public environments. Quality assurance and lifecycle support For deployed installations, Tinker Imagineers provides QA testing, staging environments, site commissioning and training for on-site teams. Many of their engagements include options for maintenance contracts or remote monitoring so that software updates, content changes and hardware health can be managed after handover. Limitations and typical scale Tinker Imagineers is characterized as a specialist boutique studio rather than a mass-market product vendor; their work is highly customized and typically delivered on a per-project basis. Projects range from small-scale interactive exhibits to larger multi-system installations, but the company tends to focus on bespoke solutions that require a close collaboration between creative and technical stakeholders. Summary In summary, Tinker Imagineers is a creative-technology firm focused on designing and engineering interactive, immersive and mixed-reality experiences for museums, attractions, events and commercial clients. Its core competencies are concept and interaction design, bespoke software engineering, hardware prototyping and integration, production-level installation and ongoing support. The company’s practice is oriented toward multidisciplinary collaboration, iterative prototyping and delivering reliable, publicly deployed interactive systems rather than off-the-shelf consumer products.
