Job Description

Do you want to solve real customer problems through innovative technology? Do you enjoy working on scalable services in a collaborative team environment? Do you want to see your code directly impact millions of customers worldwide?

At Amazon, we hire the best minds in technology to innovate and build on behalf of our customers. Customer obsession is part of our company DNA, which has made us one of the world's most beloved brands.

Our Software Development Engineer (SDE) interns use modern technology to solve complex problems while seeing their work's impact first-hand. The challenges SDE interns solve at Amazon are meaningful and influence millions of customers, sellers, and products globally. We seek individuals passionate about creating new products, features, and services while managing ambiguity in an environment where development cycles are measured in weeks, not years.

At Amazon, we believe in ownership at every level. As an SDE intern, you'll own the entire lifecycle of your code - from design through deployment and ongoing operations. This ownership mindset, combined with our commitment to operational excellence, ensures we deliver the highest quality solutions for our customers.

We're looking for curious minds who think big and want to define tomorrow's technology. At Amazon, you'll grow into the high impact engineer you know you can be, supported by a culture of learning and mentorship. Every day brings exciting new challenges and opportunities for personal growth.

Amazon internships in Israel are part-time positions, and interns should expect to work 20 hours per week. Working days must be finalized with the hiring manager within the local working week (Sunday-Thursday). Specific team norms around working hours will also be communicated by your manager. Interns should not have conflicts that prevent them from fulfilling their 20-hour weekly commitment during the agreed-upon schedule.

Key job responsibilities
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to design, build, and operate innovative products and services that delight our customers, while participating in technical discussions to drive solutions forward.
- Design and develop scalable solutions using cloud-native architectures and microservices in a large distributed computing environment.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation.
- Build and maintain resilient distributed systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, and cost-effective.
- Leverage and contribute to the development of GenAI and AI-powered tools to enhance development productivity while staying current with emerging technologies.
- Write clean, maintainable code following best practices and design patterns.
- Demonstrate operational excellence through monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues.

A day in the life
As an intern, you will be matched to a manager and a mentor and will have the opportunity to influence the evolution of Amazon technology and lead critical projects early in your career.

In addition to working on an impactful project, you will have the opportunity to engage with Amazonians for both personal and professional development, expand your network, and participate in activities with other interns throughout your internship. No matter the location of your internship, we give you the tools to own your project and learn in a real-world setting.

Company Address: ISR, Tel Aviv

Amazon Development Center (Tel Aviv) is a regional engineering and research hub operated by Amazon that forms part of the company’s global network of product development centers. The center is staffed by multidisciplinary teams of software engineers, research scientists, product managers, and operations professionals who collaborate with Amazon businesses worldwide to design, build, test, and scale software and services. As an Amazon development center, the Tel Aviv site contributes technical expertise across multiple domains including cloud services, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, distributed systems, and consumer-facing applications. The center’s work supports a variety of Amazon product groups and services rather than functioning as an independent commercial entity: its outputs are integrated into Amazon’s global products, platforms, and operations. Overview and role within Amazon The Tel Aviv development center operates as an engineering outpost for Amazon. Its core remit is to accelerate product development and provide deep technical talent to Amazon’s global lines of business. Teams at the Tel Aviv center collaborate with colleagues in other Amazon locations to deliver features, infrastructure, and research that are deployed to millions of customers. The center is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to maintain engineering capability in multiple international innovation hubs, enabling local talent to contribute directly to Amazon’s product roadmap and technical initiatives. Core business activities and capabilities The primary activities at the Tel Aviv center include software engineering, applied research, prototyping, and product development. Engineers and scientists at the site engage in full lifecycle development: from early-stage research and proof-of-concept work to production implementation, testing, and long-term maintenance. Key technical capabilities commonly reported for Amazon’s Israel engineering locations—and reflected in job listings and company descriptions for the Tel Aviv development center—include: - Cloud infrastructure and services engineering, frequently aligning with Amazon Web Services (AWS) projects. - Machine learning and artificial intelligence, including model development, evaluation, and application to product features such as personalization, recommendations, and automated decision systems. - Natural language processing and voice technologies, supporting conversational interfaces and components for Alexa and other language-aware services. - Computer vision and perceptual computing for products and device integration work. - Scalable backend systems and distributed systems engineering to support high-throughput, low-latency applications. - Security engineering, quality assurance, and operational automation to maintain robust production services. Products, services, and project types While the Tel Aviv center does not market standalone commercial products under its own name, it contributes engineering work and research outputs that feed directly into Amazon’s consumer and enterprise offerings. Contributions from the Tel Aviv teams have been associated with areas such as cloud service features, developer tooling, algorithms for personalized shopping and media recommendation, voice and language capabilities in devices and services, and core infrastructure improvements. The center supports both short-term feature delivery and longer-term research initiatives intended to advance Amazon’s technical capabilities across multiple product lines. Collaboration, talent, and recruitment Amazon’s Tel Aviv development center is frequently referenced in Amazon’s hiring and location pages as an actively recruiting site. The center attracts software engineers, data scientists, research scientists, and product managers with expertise in algorithms, distributed systems, machine learning, and software architecture. Teams collaborate closely with other Amazon engineering centers globally, participating in cross-site project work, code reviews, and synchronous engineering sprints. Recruiting materials and public job postings indicate that the center also values partnerships with local academic institutions and participates in technical outreach and community engagement activities to attract and retain specialized talent. Organizational context and global integration The Tel Aviv development center is part of Amazon’s international engineering footprint, and its teams integrate into the company’s worldwide product and service organizations. Projects and teams at the Tel Aviv site may be organizationally aligned with specific Amazon business units (for example, cloud services, Alexa, devices, or consumer retail services) and operate under the same development practices, security standards, and release processes used across Amazon. This integration ensures that features and services developed in Tel Aviv can be rapidly deployed and maintained within Amazon’s global production environments. Public-facing presence and official channels Amazon promotes its Tel Aviv engineering presence through official channels such as the Amazon Jobs site and Amazon’s corporate ‘About’ pages, where the location is listed among Amazon’s global development centers. Job postings for the Tel Aviv location provide insight into the technical focus and hiring priorities of the center, and Amazon’s public communications about its Israel engineering operations describe the center as a hub for software development and research contributing to a range of Amazon products and services. Limitations and scope This description focuses on verifiable, publicly available information about the Amazon Development Center in Tel Aviv as a regional engineering and research hub within Amazon’s global organization. Specifics such as detailed project code names, proprietary internal structures, exact street addresses, or confidential product roadmaps are not included because they are not publicly disclosed by Amazon. The center’s principal purpose is to supply engineering capabilities and technical innovation to Amazon’s broader portfolio of products and services rather than to operate as a standalone company producing externally branded offerings.
