Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a global cloud computing subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc. that designs, deploys and operates a broad set of on‑demand cloud infrastructure and platform services for businesses, public sector organizations, startups and individual developers. In India, AWS operates through local teams and legal entities commonly referred to as “AWS India,” with commercial, technical and support offices located in multiple Indian states including the National Capital Region (Gurugram, Haryana). AWS India implements and delivers the same portfolio of cloud products and services that AWS offers globally while providing localized sales, partner engagement, technical support, training and market programs tailored to Indian customers and partners. At a high level, AWS’s core business activity is the provision of cloud computing infrastructure and platform services delivered over the internet on a consumption basis. Its product portfolio spans compute, storage, database, networking, analytics, machine learning, security, developer tooling, application integration, management and governance, container orchestration, serverless computing and edge services. These capabilities are offered as discrete services (for example, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) for virtual servers; Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) for object storage; Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) for managed relational databases; AWS Lambda for serverless compute) as well as higher-level managed services and industry-focused solutions. AWS also operates a global infrastructure of Regions and Availability Zones; in India AWS operates the Asia Pacific (Mumbai) Region (ap-south-1), which provides locally hosted compute, storage and datacenter capacity to support latency-sensitive and data residency requirements for customers in India. AWS India’s activities encompass: (1) delivering and supporting AWS cloud services to Indian enterprises, startups and public sector organizations; (2) engaging with a broad partner ecosystem through the AWS Partner Network (APN) to enable system integrators, managed service providers and independent software vendors to build, certify and sell cloud-native solutions; (3) offering training, professional services and certification through AWS Training and Certification and localized programs such as AWS Educate and AWS Activate to build developer and cloud skills in the market; (4) working with government and regulated industries to address compliance, security and data sovereignty needs; and (5) operating local sales, solutions architecture, customer support and technical account management teams to accelerate customer cloud adoption. AWS India also runs programs and initiatives for startups, research institutions and educational organizations to promote cloud usage and innovation in the region. The product and service suite AWS provides can be grouped into several primary categories: compute (Amazon EC2, EC2 Auto Scaling, AWS Lambda, Amazon Elastic Container Service/EKS), storage and content delivery (Amazon S3, Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS), Amazon Glacier/ S3 Glacier, Amazon CloudFront), database and analytics (Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Redshift, Amazon EMR), networking and content delivery (Amazon VPC, AWS Direct Connect, Elastic Load Balancing), security, identity and compliance (AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), AWS Key Management Service, AWS Shield, AWS WAF), developer and management tools (AWS CloudFormation, AWS CloudTrail, Amazon CloudWatch), machine learning and AI services (Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Rekognition, Amazon Comprehend), Internet of Things and edge services (AWS IoT Core, AWS Outposts), and specialized application services for migration, media processing, business applications and more. AWS’s managed, pay-as-you-go and consumption-based billing models are central to its commercial approach, enabling customers to scale capacity up and down and pay for what they use. AWS serves a broad range of customer segments in India, including large enterprises in banking and financial services, healthcare, telecommunications, media and entertainment, education and manufacturing; public sector and government agencies with specific compliance and residency needs; startups and digital natives building cloud‑native applications; and research and academic institutions. AWS emphasizes security, compliance and governance, providing a range of certifications, attestations and controls to support regulated workloads. AWS India teams work with customers on cloud migration strategies, modernizing applications to microservices and containers, implementing data lakes and analytics platforms, deploying AI/ML workloads, and adopting DevOps practices. In addition to core services, AWS India supports customers through professional services and partner-delivered solutions, local events and workshops, and programs that provide credits, technical mentorship and go-to-market support for startups and ISVs. AWS also invests in local workforce enablement through training and certification programs, collaborating with educational institutions and partners to expand cloud skills. For enterprises requiring hybrid or on-premises models, AWS offers solutions such as AWS Outposts and VMware Cloud on AWS to integrate cloud services with on-site infrastructure while maintaining consistent APIs and management. AWS’s presence in Haryana (Gurugram) is primarily as a regional commercial and technical office that coordinates sales, partner engagement, customer support and professional services for the National Capital Region and neighboring states. These local offices complement AWS’s India cloud region (Mumbai) and global infrastructure, enabling Indian customers to access the full suite of AWS technologies while receiving localized support, compliance guidance and engagement through local teams and partners. For detailed product information, service documentation and official announcements, the principal corporate website for AWS is https://aws.amazon.com, which hosts service descriptions, regional infrastructure details, whitepapers, compliance information and localized contact options for India.
