AWS's Startup Team, including the AWS Startup Activate Program and AWS Joint Innovation Center, is part of Amazon's global initiatives to accelerate cloud-centric innovation across the startup ecosystem and to cultivate the next generation of founders. Through strategic university partnerships and startup programs, we build and grow a thriving innovation pipeline — from student entrepreneurs to high-growth ventures. We are keen to hire people who share this passion and can bring fresh perspectives to challenge our expectations.
As an AWS Business Development Intern, you will have the exciting opportunity to work in the Startup Team to drive university engagement and startup acquisition under the AWS Startup Activate Program. You will be responsible for building the university-to-startup pipeline — identifying, onboarding, and nurturing early-stage startups from campus ecosystems through to full Activate activation. Working with internal stakeholders, you will be part of the core team driving this initiative locally while ensuring alignment with and reporting of key metrics to leadership. AWS is seeking a go-getter and a quick-learner who can dive deep into programs, whilst thinking innovatively about how to reinvent processes and scale impact.
You will help ensure customer expectations are met through clear and swift follow-up. Working across universities, incubation centers, startup communities, and enterprise partners, you will quickly understand their ecosystems and empathize with the challenges founders face.

Key job responsibilities
University Engagement & Startup Pipeline
• Build and manage strategic partnerships with universities, including engagement with incubation & entrepreneurship centers, and faculties to identify startups
• Plan and execute university-focused programs and events including workshops, hackathons, startup pitch competitions, and incubation center partnerships to drive startup discovery and Activate sign-ups
• Serve as the primary point of contact for university stakeholders (educators, incubation center managers, student entrepreneurship leads) to maintain and deepen relationships

AWS Startup Activate Program
• Own end-to-end Activate onboarding for university-sourced startups — from initial outreach and qualification through application, activation, and ongoing nurturing
• Drive key program metrics including Activate sign-ups, startups onboarded, and university events run
• Conduct 1:1 engagement with startup founders to understand their needs, communicate AWS value, and guide them through the Activate journey

Joint Innovation Center (JIC) & Ecosystem Programs
• Support Joint Innovation Center (JIC) programs operations, including startup prospect engagement and community management (startups, investors, corporates) by orchestrating cross-functional and partner resources
• Support AWS-led and third-party collaboration events
• Assist in managing co-nurturing programs and cohort-based startup initiatives in partnership with ecosystem partners

Cross-functional Collaboration
• Work closely with broader teams and assist full-time employees
• Support data analysis, tracking of metrics and reporting, special project management, proposal writing, and post-event tracking and follow-up

Amazon Web Services Hong Kong Limited is the Hong Kong-registered subsidiary and local operating entity of Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing division of the Amazon group. As the local corporate presence for AWS in Hong Kong, the entity supports delivery and commercial operations for AWS cloud products and services to customers in Hong Kong and nearby markets. The organization acts as a regional legal and commercial vehicle through which AWS markets, sells, and supports its portfolio of cloud infrastructure and platform services to enterprises, public-sector organizations, startups, system integrators, and independent software vendors operating in the territory. Core business activities for the Hong Kong entity mirror the global AWS portfolio: providing on-demand cloud infrastructure, platform services, and managed offerings that let customers replace traditional on-premises IT with scalable, pay-as-you-go cloud solutions. Key commercial activities include contracting and billing for AWS services in the Hong Kong market, offering localized sales and technical support, coordinating customer migration and onboarding programs, enabling access to the AWS Partner Network locally, and delivering training, certification, and professional services engagement through AWS Professional Services and accredited partners. The primary products and services available via the Hong Kong operation reflect AWS’s broad service categories. Compute services include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) for virtual servers, AWS Lambda for serverless execution, and managed container services such as Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS). Storage and content delivery offerings include Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS), and Amazon CloudFront for global content distribution. Database and caching services offered to customers include Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), Amazon Aurora, Amazon DynamoDB (NoSQL), Amazon ElastiCache, and Amazon Redshift for data warehousing and analytics workloads. Networking and edge services provided locally enable secure connectivity and performance for enterprise applications: Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), Elastic Load Balancing, AWS Direct Connect for private network links, and global domain name services via Amazon Route 53. Security, identity, and compliance services include AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), AWS Key Management Service (KMS), AWS Certificate Manager, and a suite of governance and monitoring tools such as AWS CloudTrail and Amazon CloudWatch that help organizations audit activity, monitor performance, and manage security posture. Data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence offerings are part of the local portfolio. These include fully managed analytics services and platforms — such as Amazon Kinesis for real-time streaming, AWS Glue for extract-transform-load (ETL), Amazon Athena for interactive query, and Amazon Redshift for data warehousing — along with machine learning services such as Amazon SageMaker for building, training, and deploying ML models. AWS also provides specialized services for Internet of Things (IoT), application integration (Amazon Simple Queue Service, Amazon Simple Notification Service), developer tooling (AWS CloudFormation, AWS CodePipeline), and application services for migrating and modernizing legacy workloads. For enterprise and public sector customers in Hong Kong, AWS’s Hong Kong presence typically emphasizes compliance with regional regulatory requirements, data residency options using the AWS Asia Pacific (Hong Kong) Region, and engagement programs tailored to local industries. The local entity coordinates with public-sector and regulated-industry customers to address compliance frameworks, certifications, and contractual arrangements relevant to operating sensitive workloads in the cloud. AWS’s commercial model in the region also includes support offerings (ranging from basic to enterprise-level support plans), professional services to assist with architecture and migration, and an ecosystem of certified partners that deliver consulting, managed services, and industry-specific solutions. AWS Hong Kong supports developer enablement and skills development through local training and certification programs, partner enablement activities, and events that bring technical and business audiences together. The company’s channels for customer support, technical guidance, and account management include AWS Support, local account teams, solutions architects, and partner channels. AWS Marketplace is also available to customers in the region, providing a curated catalog of third-party software and services that can be subscribed to and deployed on AWS infrastructure. Operationally, the Hong Kong entity participates in the overall global AWS cloud infrastructure model, which delivers services from geographically distributed AWS regions and Availability Zones. Customers who require low-latency access or data residency within Hong Kong can deploy workloads in the AWS Asia Pacific (Hong Kong) Region and take advantage of localized Availability Zones for redundancy and high availability. The local AWS presence also aims to help organizations accelerate cloud adoption, modernize applications, and reduce total cost of ownership by replacing capital-intensive hardware with elastic cloud resources. As a widely known cloud provider in the technology sector, Amazon Web Services Hong Kong Limited plays the role of local extension of AWS’s global product portfolio and customer support capabilities. The company’s customers in Hong Kong span startups, multinational corporations, financial institutions, media companies, public sector bodies, and technology partners that rely on AWS services for compute, storage, databases, analytics, machine learning, developer tooling, and enterprise applications.
