A day in the life
Morning: Coffee with Te Whatu Ora's Digital lead. You discuss migrating legacy systems to cloud—unlocking real-time data for clinicians across the motu.
Midday: Partner workshop on Amazon Connect for a regional health service. Their new contact centre will reduce patient wait times and improve access to mental health support.
Afternoon: Demo AI-powered diagnostic tools with a clinical director. Early detection models could transform cancer outcomes for Māori and Pasifika communities.
Evening: A health provider emails—their migration is complete. Clinicians now access patient records instantly, spending more time on care, less on admin.
Better outcomes, healthier whānau. That's why you do this.

Amazon Web Services New Zealand Limited is the New Zealand legal entity affiliated with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing division of Amazon.com, Inc. As the local AWS presence and legal operator in New Zealand, the company provides enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure, platform services, tools and professional support that enable organisations across the public and private sectors to design, deploy, operate and scale applications and IT workloads. Its activities are focused on delivering on-demand, scalable, and secure cloud services that eliminate the need for organisations to buy, build and manage physical datacentres. Core business activities: The company’s primary business activity is the supply and management of cloud computing services and related professional offerings to New Zealand customers. This covers a broad portfolio including compute (virtual servers and container services), storage (object, block, file), database (managed relational, NoSQL, data warehouse), networking and content delivery, security and identity services, analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence, developer tools, application integration, management and governance. In practical terms the business helps customers migrate existing applications to the cloud, modernise legacy systems, build cloud-native applications, and operate production workloads with scalable infrastructure and managed services. Main products and services: Amazon Web Services New Zealand Limited offers access to the same core AWS product families available globally. Key product categories include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) for virtualized compute; Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and Elastic Container Service (ECS) for container orchestration; Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) for scalable object storage and Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) for persistent block-level storage; managed database services such as Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), Amazon Aurora, Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Redshift for data warehousing; networking services including Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), Elastic Load Balancing and Amazon CloudFront for global content delivery; security, identity and compliance tools such as AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), AWS Key Management Service (KMS) and AWS Shield; analytics and big data services (e.g., Amazon EMR, AWS Glue, Amazon Athena); machine learning and AI services such as Amazon SageMaker and pre-built AI services for vision, speech, language and forecasting; developer and DevOps tooling (AWS Code* services, AWS CloudFormation, AWS Systems Manager); and management and monitoring tools including Amazon CloudWatch and AWS CloudTrail. The company also facilitates access to AWS Marketplace, AWS Partner Network (APN) partners, professional services and training and certification resources. Customer segments and use cases: AWS New Zealand supports a wide range of customers including startups, small and medium-sized enterprises, large enterprises, educational institutions and government agencies. Common use cases include web and mobile application hosting, enterprise resource systems, data analytics and business intelligence, machine learning and AI model training and inference, backup and disaster recovery, high-performance computing, media processing and streaming, and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. AWS services are used by organisations to improve agility, accelerate time-to-market, reduce infrastructure capital expenditure and increase operational efficiency through managed services and automation. Compliance, security and operational practices: The entity follows AWS’s global approach to security, shared responsibility model and compliance frameworks. AWS maintains numerous third-party attestations and certifications for its global infrastructure and services, including industry standards such as ISO/IEC 27001, SOC 1/2/3 and PCI DSS, and provides tooling and documentation to help customers meet regulatory requirements and privacy obligations. AWS also publishes compliance information and data processing terms to support customers operating in regulated sectors. For organisations with data residency or sovereignty concerns, AWS offers architectural patterns, data encryption, and jurisdictional guidance to help align deployments with local regulations. Support, professional services and ecosystem: Amazon Web Services New Zealand Limited supports local customers through technical account management, professional services, training and certification programs and a local partner ecosystem of systems integrators, managed service providers and independent software vendors that form the AWS Partner Network. The company helps customers plan cloud adoption strategies, execute large-scale migrations, optimise costs and implement best practices for reliability, performance and security. Training and certification offerings help local technical teams build skills in cloud architecture, operations, development and data services. Commercial model and delivery: AWS operates on a utility-style, pay-as-you-go pricing model for most services, supplemented by options such as Reserved Instances, Savings Plans and enterprise discount programs for customers who commit to defined usage levels. The company provides a mixture of self-service portals, APIs and managed offerings so that organisations can adopt either a fully self-managed cloud-first approach or leverage AWS-managed services to reduce operational overhead. Relationship to the global AWS organisation: As the New Zealand legal entity connected to the global AWS organisation, Amazon Web Services New Zealand Limited enables local engagement, contracting and compliance for New Zealand-based customers while providing access to the breadth of AWS global services, partner ecosystem and operational practices. Customers in New Zealand therefore benefit from AWS’s broad service catalogue, global infrastructure, ongoing service development and security investments, combined with localized sales, support and partner channels. Official online presence: Information about AWS’s services, compliance programs, global infrastructure and New Zealand-specific resources and events are published on the official AWS website and localised New Zealand pages where customers can access documentation, pricing, support channels and partner listings.
