Job Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Director of Technology to serve as technical sales leader for Germany & Central Europe. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of cloud and generative AI adoption in the region as a senior member of the regional leadership team and the AWS Global Technology leadership team.

In this role, you will provide the technical leadership and voice within the go-to-market strategy for the region. You will partner with customers, AWS Sales, and cross-functional AWS teams to craft highly scalable, flexible, and resilient cloud architectures that address customers' most pressing business challenges and accelerate the adoption of AWS services within Enterprise customers. Recognized as a trusted customer advocate, you will help organizations understand best practices for advanced cloud-based solutions — including how to migrate and modernise existing workloads — while translating complex technology into compelling business outcomes.

You will lead a high-performing organization of Solutions Architects driving transformational customer outcomes across the region. Your influence will extend well beyond your direct organization — shaping AWS's technical strategy, contributing to worldwide leadership forums, and serving as a trusted voice at the intersection of technology, business, and innovation. This role demands both the strategic foresight to anticipate where the market is heading and the operational excellence to execute across a matrixed, global organization.

Key job responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Vision
- Influence technical strategy for the region, whilst aligning to AWS's global priorities
- Serve as the primary technology voice influencing decisions on product direction, go-to-market investment, and customer engagement models.
- Anticipate and respond to emerging technology trends and position AWS as the partner of choice.
- Build mechanisms to scale AWS impact across multiple industries within your region
- Contribute thought leadership — through whitepapers, public speaking, conference participation, and media engagement — that elevates AWS's profile as the cloud provider of choice

Executive Customer Engagement & Influence

- Engage at C-suite and board level with AWS's customers and prospects across the region, serving as a trusted advisor on digital transformation, AI strategy, and cloud-native architecture, and the application of emerging technologies on business outcomes.
- Build and sustain executive relationships that accelerate adoption, deepen partnership, and unlock new categories of value within customers.
- Represent AWS publicly, deliver thought leadership, and evangelize externally on AWS impact and offerings, on varied topics including GenAI, security and cloud adoption.
- Lead the development of compelling, differentiated technical narratives that connect AWS capabilities to customer business priorities, driving pipeline growth, accelerating deal velocity, and supporting revenue expansion.
- Formulate and execute customer-focused strategies that drive broad-based adoption of AWS services, including Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, Amazon DynamoDB, AWS Lambda, and the full suite of generative AI capabilities.
- Proven track record of leading and driving multiple complex, high-stakes customer engagements simultaneously.
- Educate customers of all sizes on the value proposition of AWS and participate in deep architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment in the cloud.

Organizational Leadership & Talent Development

- Lead, motivate and inspire a team of Solutions Architects, fostering a culture of technical excellence, customer obsession, and continuous innovation.
- Build the next generation of AWS technical leaders through coaching and development focusing on best practices, presentation and engagement skills, in addition to continuous learning in technical domains / solutions.
- Set the bar for technical credibility and customer impact and establish high standards for operational management — defining goals and metrics, and managing the rhythm of business through weekly, monthly, and annual planning mechanisms.
- Track record of hiring and developing technical teams, including growing technical leaders who go on to have outsized impact

Cross-Functional Partnership & Influence

- Partner extensively with multiple teams including Sales, Specialist Solution Architects, Marketing, Customer Success Managers, Professional Services, and Partners to develop integrated strategies that drive revenue growth and market expansion.
- Represent your team to AWS Executive management
- Collaborate with AWS Global Service Teams to ensure local customer insights and requirements shape the global product roadmap.
- Operate as a senior leader within the AWS Regional Leadership Team, contributing to business strategy beyond the technology function.

You are a technology executive with a track record of leading large, complex organizations through periods of significant growth and transformation. You combine deep technical credibility with exceptional business acumen, and you are equally comfortable presenting a generative AI architecture to a CTO and articulating a market investment thesis to a CEO or board.

You bring:
- Proven experience leading technical pre-sales or customer-facing technical organizations at scale with deep familiarity of the German market.
- Expertise and thought-leadership in complex business-IT transformations including platform modernization, enterprise systems, digital transformation, cloud deployment and migrations, governance, software development, and enterprise architecture.
- A strategic mindset that looks beyond technology to the business outcomes it enables — and the ability to translate that vision into executable go-to-market strategy.
- Demonstrated success building and developing high-performing, inclusive teams of technical leaders in a fast-moving, matrixed environment.
- The ability to foster a culture of innovation, customer-centricity, and continuous learning.
- Executive presence and communication skills that inspire confidence with customers, partners, government stakeholders, and internal leadership at the highest levels.
- Deep familiarity with cloud computing, generative AI, and the evolving technology landscape — and the intellectual curiosity to stay ahead of what's next.
- Experience operating as a member of a senior leadership team, contributing to business strategy beyond your direct functional remit.
- A demonstrated ability to connect technical solutions to commercial outcomes, supporting sales cycles and influencing customer buying decisions at the executive level.
- Exceptional communication skills — the ability to "think big" and inspire passion in others, while staying grounded in tactical execution and delivering results

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- Executive leadership experience in a technical, customer-facing role within the technology industry
- Significant design, implementation or consulting experience with cloud native applications and architectures
- Extensive people management experience including growing technical leaders
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated effectiveness engaging tech and business C-level executives
- Experience working in a matrix structure and influencing stakeholders at multiple levels and across global organizations

Preferred Qualifications

- History of successful technical consulting and/or architecture engagements with large-scale customers or enterprises
- Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud
- Familiarity with common enterprise services or platforms
- Track record of presenting and influencing up to C level across technical and non-technical audiences
- High degree of comfort communicating effectively across internal and external organizations
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly

AWS EMEA SARL (Germany Branch) is the German-registered branch of AWS EMEA SARL, a European legal entity that is part of Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing division of Amazon.com, Inc. As a regional branch of AWS EMEA SARL, the Germany Branch represents AWS’s local commercial, technical and customer-facing operations in Germany and supports the delivery, sales, customer success, compliance, and partner-engagement activities required to serve organisations in Germany and nearby European markets. The branch operates within the broader AWS organization, which is a global provider of on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, companies and governments on a metered, pay-as-you-go basis. Company overview and role AWS EMEA SARL (Germany Branch) functions as the local legal presence for AWS’s European entity in Germany. It facilitates contractual relationships, invoicing, local sales and marketing, and customer support under German law for AWS customers and partners. The branch enables closer engagement with German enterprises, public-sector organisations, startups, and managed service providers by providing localized commercial teams, technical specialists and account management resources. It also supports AWS’s compliance posture in Europe by coordinating local regulatory, data protection and governmental interactions relevant to customers operating in Germany. Core business activities The principal activities carried out by the Germany branch mirror AWS’s core business: providing cloud infrastructure and platform services across compute, storage, database, networking, analytics, machine learning, security, developer tooling, and application integration. Operationally, the branch supports: (1) sales and commercial contracting for AWS services to German customers; (2) technical account management, solutions architecture and professional services to accelerate customer cloud adoption; (3) partner and channel engagement with local systems integrators, consulting firms and independent software vendors; (4) customer success, training and certification programs delivered locally; and (5) liaison with regulators and industry bodies regarding data residency, privacy and compliance requirements. Main products and services AWS’s product portfolio – which the Germany branch markets and supports in-country – includes a broad set of cloud services used to build and run applications. Core infrastructure services include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) for virtual servers, Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) for scalable object storage, Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) and Amazon Elastic File System (EFS) for block and file storage, and Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) for isolated networking. Managed database and analytics offerings include Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) (including Amazon Aurora), Amazon DynamoDB (NoSQL), Amazon Redshift (data warehousing) and Amazon EMR (big data processing). Container and serverless compute offerings include Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) and AWS Lambda. Security, identity and management services provided and supported locally include AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), AWS Key Management Service (KMS), Amazon CloudWatch for monitoring and observability, AWS CloudTrail for API logging, AWS Config for resource inventory and compliance, and AWS Systems Manager for operational management. Networking and edge services such as Amazon CloudFront (content delivery), AWS Direct Connect and AWS Transit Gateway are available to customers with hybrid or high-performance networking needs. Machine learning and AI services supported include Amazon SageMaker for model development and deployment, as well as a broad set of pre-built AI services for vision, language and forecasting. The branch also supports migration, modernization and professional services to help customers move on-premises workloads into AWS and to optimize cloud usage. Regulatory, compliance and data residency support AWS emphasizes compliance and security controls for European customers; the Germany branch plays a role in facilitating compliance with German and EU regulations (including data protection frameworks such as the General Data Protection Regulation, where applicable). AWS global compliance programs and attestations that are commonly cited for European operations include ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018, SOC 1/2/3 reports, PCI DSS and other industry-specific certifications. AWS also operates multiple geographic regions within Europe (for example the EU (Frankfurt) region) to provide options for data residency and low-latency access for customers based in Germany and neighbouring countries. Customer segments and partner ecosystem Customers supported by the Germany branch span startups, mid-market enterprises, large multinational corporations and public sector organisations. The branch works with a network of local partners—system integrators, managed service providers, ISVs and consulting firms—that form the AWS Partner Network (APN) in Germany. Through partner programs, managed services and competency certifications, AWS enables local partners to deliver migration, application development, managed hosting and specialized domain services on top of AWS infrastructure. Local presence and operations While the legal entity for AWS in Europe is AWS EMEA SARL (based in Luxembourg), the Germany Branch provides a formal in-country legal and operational footprint to engage directly with customers under local rules. Typical in-country activities include sales, marketing, customer support, technical enablement, and participation in industry events, workshops and training programs. The Germany Branch helps ensure German customers have access to localized contractual terms, billing options, and support in German language where required. Overall, AWS EMEA SARL (Germany Branch) functions as the regional extension of Amazon Web Services within Germany, delivering AWS core cloud infrastructure and platform services in combination with localized commercial, technical and compliance support to serve the needs of German customers and partners.
