Amazon Payments, Inc. is a United States-based subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc. that develops, operates, and provides merchant- and consumer-facing online payment products and related payments infrastructure under the Amazon Pay brand. The company focuses on enabling third-party merchants, e-commerce platforms, mobile applications, and websites to accept payments using Amazon customer accounts and stored payment instruments. Amazon Payments, Inc. provides payment processing, digital wallet functionality, checkout integration tools, fraud monitoring and risk-management services, merchant settlement and reconciliation capabilities, and supporting developer APIs and integrations for web and mobile commerce. As the operator of Amazon Pay for U.S. merchants, Amazon Payments, Inc. offers a set of services designed to simplify the checkout experience by allowing consumers to use shipping and billing information already stored in their Amazon accounts. For merchants, the service includes button- or widget-based checkout integration, hosted checkout pages, in-context checkout SDKs for web and mobile platforms, and plugins for common e-commerce platforms. The product set is intended to reduce checkout friction, leverage Amazon account authentication, and provide a familiar payment flow for buyers who already maintain profiles with Amazon. Core business activities of Amazon Payments, Inc. include payment authorization and settlement for card-based transactions, management of stored payment credentials within customer Amazon accounts, dispute and chargeback handling processes for merchant partners, and the provision of technical documentation, developer tools, and customer support channels for integration and operations. The company also implements fraud-detection and risk-scoring systems to monitor transactions and mitigate unauthorized or high-risk activity. These systems are combined with operational processes for merchant onboarding, compliance checks, and payment remediation where necessary. Amazon Payments, Inc. markets and supports several principal products and services under the Amazon Pay umbrella. Amazon Pay (consumer checkout service) allows users to sign into participating merchant sites using their Amazon credentials and complete purchases using addresses and payment methods saved to their Amazon account. Login and Pay with Amazon is a related authentication and checkout capability that integrates Amazon account sign-in with payment processing. For developers and merchants, Amazon Pay provides APIs, SDKs, plugins, and a web console to configure account settings, manage orders, view payouts and reports, reconcile transactions, and access customer support. Additional services include tools for recurring payments and subscription billing, support for authorization and capture flows, refunds and cancellations, and reporting features that enable merchants to reconcile sales, fees, and chargebacks. Operationally, Amazon Payments, Inc. interfaces with acquiring banks, card networks, payment gateways, and other financial partners to process card-not-present transactions and to move funds between buyer payment instruments and merchant accounts. The company handles merchant payouts, fee assessment, and account management functions, and provides documentation and resources for merchants to comply with data handling and security requirements. Amazon Payments also offers various fraud-mitigation measures—such as device and behavioral analytics, velocity checks, and rule-based screening—to help lower the incidence of fraudulent transactions for merchants using its services. On the technical side, Amazon Payments, Inc. publishes developer-oriented resources including API reference documentation, SDKs for multiple programming environments, and integration guides for popular e-commerce platforms and content-management systems. The company supports both server-side and client-side integration patterns, providing flexibility to merchants and platform partners that wish to embed Amazon Pay in cart and checkout workflows, mobile applications, or point-of-sale environments that support web-based payment flows. Amazon Payments, Inc. coordinates with sister Amazon entities and international Amazon Payments organizations to provide country-specific offerings and to comply with regional regulatory and payment network requirements. In some regions, separate Amazon Payments legal entities operate localized payment services and regulatory relationships, while Amazon Payments, Inc. focuses on U.S.-based operations and merchant relationships where it is the contracting party. The company maintains merchant-facing support, technical integration assistance, and performance reporting to help businesses adopt and operate the Amazon Pay payment method. As a payments service operator associated with a major consumer internet company, Amazon Payments, Inc. positions its product around convenience, account-based checkout, and leveraging an existing consumer trust relationship with Amazon accounts. The company emphasizes integration simplicity for merchants and a seamless checkout experience for consumers who prefer to use stored Amazon account payment methods rather than entering card details on each merchant site. Through developer tools, merchant services, risk management capabilities, and settlement operations, Amazon Payments, Inc. provides a comprehensive payments offering intended to reduce friction for online transactions and to support merchant acceptance of Amazon account–based payments.
