Job Description

Today, Amazon Web Services provides a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of businesses in 190 countries around the world. The AWS Cloud infrastructure is built around Regions and Availability Zones (AZs). AWS Regions provide multiple, physically separated and isolated Availability Zones which are connected with low latency, high throughput, and highly redundant networking. How would you like to come be part of the team that builds out that low latency, high throughput, and highly redundant network?

We are looking for a Technical Program Manager with proven experience, strong sense of ownership and passion for defining and driving large cross-functional programs. The candidate should be self-driven, have the ability to learn quickly and influence decision-making across organizations. In this position, you will work closely with various Amazon business units to gather, refine and drive program goals including compliance and financial management. You will have the opportunity to implement new processes and procedures driving continuous improvement while interacting with a broad range of stakeholders across Amazon.

At Amazon, we set a high bar, so expect to be challenged on the scope and scale of the problems we tackle. We are moving fast, using the latest technologies, and transforming the way we deliver global connectivity.

Key job responsibilities
In this position, the candidate will work closely with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to manage the compliance and reporting requirements of the global AWS subsea network. The candidate will be responsible for the managing and reporting of our compliance requirements and response, policy development, and compliance training. The candidate will also undertake financial and project management within the subsea engineering team to support the ongoing operations of our in-service network.

Specific knowledge of submarine cable deployment and operation is looked for, but not a necessity.

A day in the life
Our subsea projects are multi year in duration, requiring careful planning, disciplined execution and with a growing program, constant invention and simplification. We work with internal and external stakeholders and partners, driving projects to meet our goals and timelines. We ensure that the delivery of the projects meet our high standards and specifications. When faced with an issue or delay, we invent to solve for the roadblock alerting our customers along the way. Communications are crisp, timely and always advise a path forward. We learn from each other, ensuring global consistency.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

About the team
The Subsea engineering team is responsible for all aspects of submarine network deployment, operation, upgrades and management within AWS. We own the technology roadmap and standards for submarine fibre optic cable, installation methods, procurement of the SLTE, RSPC and associated operational models and security postures. The team works closely with the Regional Business Development teams to deliver submarine capacity to a global standard, enabling economic and scalable consistency for all our customers.

Diverse Experiences
AWS values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying.

Company Information

Company Name: Amazon Data Services UK Limited

Company Website: https://aws.amazon.com/

Company Address: 1 Principal Place, Worship Street, London EC2A 2FA, United Kingdom

Amazon Data Services UK Limited is a United Kingdom-registered subsidiary within the broader Amazon corporate group that supports Amazon’s technology operations in the UK and regionally. As a corporate legal entity, it is primarily associated with the operation, management and provision of technology infrastructure, cloud computing resources and related platform services that underpin Amazon Web Services (AWS) offerings and Amazon’s retail and digital services in the UK market. The company functions as an operational and administrative vehicle for delivering and managing technical services, infrastructure capacity, and support activities required to run scalable online platforms and cloud services. Its activities are tightly integrated with Amazon’s global technology organization and with AWS, enabling the delivery, operation and maintenance of data center capacity, networking, hosting, platform management, and ancillary technical and administrative functions required by cloud and e-commerce operations. At a high level, Amazon Data Services UK Limited’s core business activities include provision and management of cloud infrastructure components and platform services; operation and oversight of local technical systems and facilities; administration of service delivery, billing and account management interfaces for customers using Amazon’s cloud and platform services in the UK; and coordination with Amazon’s global engineering, security and compliance teams to meet local regulatory, data residency and operational requirements. In practice this means the entity participates in the deployment and operation of compute, storage, networking and platform management capabilities, including management of servers and virtualization layers, storage arrays, database services, and networking infrastructure that together form the backbone for cloud-hosted applications and online retail services. The company’s main products and services are delivered under the larger Amazon and AWS product families rather than as standalone retail-branded offerings unique to the UK subsidiary. These include enabling the delivery of AWS cloud services (for example, compute, storage, databases, networking and platform services), supporting managed services and professional services engagements, and facilitating local contracting, billing and customer support operations for business and enterprise customers. In support of these services the entity also provides administrative and operational support such as technical account management, compliance and security operations, data centre operations coordination, and legal and finance functions necessary for commercial engagement with customers in the United Kingdom. Amazon Data Services UK Limited commonly works in conjunction with other Amazon group companies and AWS regional organizational units. Where AWS offers localized services, such as data residency options or region-specific compliance and security controls, the UK entity helps implement and manage the operational and contractual elements that enable those services to be delivered locally. This includes collaborating with Amazon’s global teams on engineering deployments, incident response, capacity planning and ensuring that required certifications, audit controls and regulatory obligations are addressed for customers who rely on AWS and Amazon’s hosted platforms in the UK. The company’s customers and stakeholders encompass a broad set of users: enterprise and public sector customers procuring cloud infrastructure and platform services; software developers and startups building on AWS; internal Amazon business units that rely on hosted platform capability; and partners and systems integrators that resell, integrate or manage Amazon and AWS services for end customers. Through these relationships, the entity supports a range of use cases from basic web hosting and content delivery to advanced analytics, machine learning workloads, large-scale e-commerce operations, and other infrastructure-intensive services. From an organizational perspective, Amazon Data Services UK Limited typically performs the local legal, tax and administrative duties required for operating AWS and Amazon services in the UK market. This includes contracting, billing, financial reporting, tax compliance, and responding to legal and regulatory requests as a UK-registered corporate entity. Operationally, the company interfaces with local data centre operators, utilities and connectivity providers to ensure the physical and network infrastructure necessary for resilient cloud operations. Security, privacy and compliance are also central operational priorities, especially given the regulatory landscape for data protection and information security in the UK and the European Economic Area. While the public-facing products and branding are those of Amazon and AWS, Amazon Data Services UK Limited is an important part of Amazon’s local corporate structure enabling the delivery of cloud computing and platform services, local commercial engagement and compliance with UK-specific legal and operational requirements. For the most up-to-date descriptions of AWS and Amazon services that the company helps enable, refer to Amazon’s global websites and official corporate filings for the UK entity.
