Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the cloud computing division of Amazon.com that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms, infrastructure services and a broad set of managed services to individuals, startups, enterprises and public-sector organizations. AWS is organized globally with regional operations for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) that coordinate sales, partner engagement, technical support and localized customer programs. References to "AWS EMEA (Austria)" typically denote AWS’s regional EMEA organization and its localized activities serving customers, partners and public-sector entities located in Austria, including local business development, technical engagement, training, and partner ecosystem support. Company overview: AWS offers a comprehensive portfolio of cloud services spanning core infrastructure (compute, storage, networking), data management (relational and NoSQL databases, data lakes, analytics), application development (serverless compute, containers, developer tools), artificial intelligence and machine learning, security and identity services, Internet of Things (IoT), migration and modernization tooling, and business application services. AWS operates a global infrastructure of geographically isolated Regions and Availability Zones; within the EMEA footprint AWS maintains multiple Regions and local teams to support regulatory, compliance, latency and data residency requirements for customers across European and neighboring markets. Core business activities: AWS’s primary activities are designing, operating and selling cloud-based infrastructure and platform services on a pay-as-you-go basis, enabling customers to run workloads without managing physical hardware. Key activities include providing virtualized compute resources (instances/virtual machines and serverless execution), object and block storage, managed database services, networking primitives (virtual private clouds, load balancing, content delivery), big data processing and analytics services, machine learning frameworks and model hosting, identity and access management, and security/compliance tools. AWS also invests in partner programs, marketplaces, technical training and certification, professional services and migration support to help organizations adopt and optimize cloud-native architectures. In EMEA the regional teams engage with local enterprises, governments, research institutions and independent software vendors to support cloud adoption, run workshops and ensure compliance with European data protection and regulatory frameworks. Main products and services: AWS’s product portfolio is extensive and can be grouped into major categories: - Compute: Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) for virtual servers; AWS Lambda for serverless functions; container services including Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS). - Storage and Content Delivery: Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) for object storage; Elastic Block Store (EBS) for block storage; Amazon FSx for managed file systems; Amazon CloudFront for content delivery and caching. - Databases and Data Management: Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) for managed relational databases; Amazon Aurora (cloud-optimized relational); Amazon DynamoDB (NoSQL); Amazon Redshift for data warehousing; AWS Glue for ETL and data cataloging. - Networking & Edge: Amazon VPC for virtual networks; AWS Direct Connect for dedicated network links; Amazon Route 53 for DNS; AWS Outposts and Local Zones for hybrid/low-latency deployments. - Analytics & Big Data: Amazon EMR for managed Hadoop/Spark clusters; Amazon Kinesis for real-time streaming; Amazon OpenSearch Service (formerly Elasticsearch) for search and observability. - Machine Learning & AI: Amazon SageMaker for building, training and deploying ML models; pre-built AI services for vision, speech, language, and personalization. - Security, Identity & Compliance: AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM); AWS Key Management Service (KMS); AWS CloudTrail and AWS Config for governance and auditability; a broad set of certifications and compliance attestations. - Developer Tools & Management: AWS CloudFormation for infrastructure as code; AWS CodePipeline/CodeBuild/CodeDeploy for CI/CD; AWS Systems Manager and CloudWatch for monitoring and operations. - Migration & Transfer: AWS Migration Hub, Database Migration Service (DMS), and application discovery and modernization offerings. - Marketplace & Partner Ecosystem: AWS Marketplace for third-party software, and the AWS Partner Network (APN) for consulting and technology partners. Industry focus and customer segments: AWS serves a wide array of industries, including technology and software, financial services, media and entertainment, healthcare and life sciences, manufacturing, retail, automotive, telecommunications, and public sector organizations. In EMEA and local Austrian engagements, AWS teams often work with enterprises, startups, educational institutions and government entities on cloud migration, data residency and sovereignty, digital transformation and innovation initiatives. Support, professional services and enablement: AWS complements its platform with support plans, enterprise account teams, professional services and an extensive training and certification program. AWS provides consulting through its APN partners and directly via professional services to assist with architecture design, migration, cost optimization and operational excellence. Compliance and security posture: AWS emphasizes security, privacy and compliance as foundational aspects of its offering. The platform provides regionally configurable controls for data protection, encryption, logging and monitoring, and AWS maintains numerous independent third-party certifications and audits (for example ISO/IEC standards and SOC reports) across its infrastructure. In EMEA, AWS publishes guidance on data protection and compliance to help organizations meet regional regulatory obligations. In summary, "AWS EMEA (Austria)" points to the activities of Amazon Web Services within the Europe, Middle East and Africa region as applied to Austria: delivering cloud infrastructure and platform services, supporting local customers and partners, enabling digital transformation and providing managed services, tools and programs to build, secure and operate cloud-native applications.
