Amazon EU S.à r.l. (often styled Amazon EU Sarl) is the European legal entity within the Amazon group that coordinates and provides a broad range of Amazon’s consumer-facing retail and marketplace operations across the European Union. Registered in Luxembourg, Amazon EU S.à r.l. functions as a principal regional organization for Amazon’s European e-commerce activities and maintains branches and local registrations in member states (including Germany) to comply with national regulatory, tax and commercial requirements. As stated on Amazon’s corporate materials, Amazon’s broader corporate mission is “to be Earth’s most customer‑centric company,” and Amazon EU S.à r.l. carries out core elements of that mission for customers, sellers and partners in Europe. Company overview and role in the Amazon group Amazon EU S.à r.l. is a regional subsidiary that supports and manages many aspects of Amazon’s retail and marketplace business in Europe. Its responsibilities include operating and supporting Amazon’s online storefronts that serve European consumers, enabling and contracting with third‑party sellers through Amazon Marketplace programs, administering payment processing and invoicing for EU transactions, and supporting product compliance, consumer protection and legal obligations under European law. The Luxembourg‑based entity is a centrally registered legal vehicle used by Amazon to coordinate European operations while local branches or separate legal entities address country‑specific operational and regulatory needs (such as German branch offices). Core business activities Amazon EU S.à r.l.’s primary business activities revolve around e-commerce platform operations and services for both consumers and businesses in Europe. These activities include: - Operating Amazon’s online retail storefronts and digital storefront infrastructure for consumer purchases of physical goods across a wide range of categories. - Providing marketplace services that allow independent third‑party sellers to list, price and sell products to customers using Amazon’s platform (including the tools sellers use to manage listings, inventory, returns and customer service). - Running logistics and fulfillment programs that support seller shipments and customer deliveries, most notably Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), which integrates warehousing, inventory management, packing and delivery services. - Managing payments, invoicing and certain tax‑related processes for European transactions to meet regional legal and regulatory requirements. - Offering advertising and marketing services to vendors and sellers (Amazon Advertising) to promote product visibility on Amazon’s sites. - Providing digital content storefronts and subscription services to customers in Europe (such as Amazon Prime membership benefits that bundle fast delivery with digital streaming and other services), although some digital and cloud services may be provided by specialized Amazon group companies. Main products and services The main output of Amazon EU S.à r.l. is the set of commercial platforms, operational services and programs that together enable online retail at scale across Europe. Key products and services provided directly or administered regionally include: - Amazon online marketplace platforms (country storefronts where consumers search for and buy products). - Marketplace seller programs and tools that enable millions of independent sellers to reach customers in European markets. - Fulfillment and logistics services (Fulfillment by Amazon and partner logistics services) that provide warehousing, order processing and delivery infrastructure. - Subscription services marketed to European customers (including Amazon Prime benefits such as expedited shipping, Prime Video and Prime Music access in jurisdictions where those digital services are offered). - Advertising solutions for vendors and sellers to increase product discoverability and run campaigns on Amazon properties. - Customer‑facing devices and proprietary hardware sold in European markets (for example Fire tablets, Kindle e‑readers and Echo devices), together with associated ecosystem services and content stores. Relationship to other Amazon businesses While Amazon EU S.à r.l. focuses on retail and marketplace operations in Europe, other major Amazon businesses operate in parallel: Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides cloud infrastructure and platform services globally but is generally organized under separate legal entities within the Amazon group; similarly, distinct legal entities manage Amazon’s global device development, entertainment content, and other specialized functions. Amazon EU S.à r.l. primarily concentrates on regional commerce, seller solutions, logistics coordination and customer operations for European markets. Regulatory, compliance and local presence As an operator within the European market, Amazon EU S.à r.l. maintains a formal corporate presence in Luxembourg and operates branches and local offices to meet national registration and regulatory requirements in countries such as Germany. The regional structure enables centralized coordination of marketplace rules, customer service policies, seller agreements and compliance with consumer‑protection, data‑protection and tax obligations across the EU while allowing local branches to liaise with national authorities and implement locality‑specific operational details. Scale and market position Amazon is one of the largest e‑commerce platforms globally and in Europe, with a broad ecosystem that includes millions of sellers, extensive logistics and fulfillment networks, and a wide portfolio of consumer products and digital services. Amazon EU S.à r.l. plays a central role in maintaining and growing Amazon’s European retail footprint by enabling transactions, logistics and seller participation across multiple national markets. Note on corporate scope Descriptions above reflect the publicly stated activities Amazon carries out in Europe through its corporate structure. Specific responsibilities, legal arrangements and the scope of operations for particular local branches (for example a Germany branch identified by an internal code such as “D70”) are governed by corporate filings and local registrations; Amazon’s public corporate site and official regulatory filings provide authoritative details on legal entity structures and registered addresses.
