Amazon Web Services (AWS) India represents the India-focused operations and customer-facing organization of Amazon Web Services, the cloud computing arm of Amazon.com, Inc. AWS is a global provider of on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs that enable organisations of all sizes to run applications, store and analyze data, and deploy infrastructure without the upfront capital expense and operational overhead of managing physical servers. In India, AWS supports a broad spectrum of customers — including startups, enterprises, public sector organizations, educational institutions, and independent software vendors — by offering the same portfolio of cloud infrastructure, platform, and managed services that AWS delivers globally, adapted to local regulatory, security, and business requirements. Core business activities AWS’s core activities center on providing scalable, secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure and associated platform services. Key lines of business include: infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offerings such as virtual servers and block storage; platform and middleware services for databases, analytics, machine learning, and application integration; and higher-level managed services for security, identity and access management, monitoring, and cost governance. In India, AWS teams work with customers and partners to plan and execute cloud migrations, modernize applications, optimize costs, and build cloud-native solutions using microservices, containers, and serverless architectures. Main products and services AWS’s product portfolio — available to Indian customers through the same global service catalog — spans multiple technical domains: - Compute: Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) for virtual servers; AWS Lambda for serverless compute; containers services including Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and Elastic Container Service (ECS). - Storage and Content Delivery: Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) for object storage; Elastic Block Store (EBS); Amazon FSx for managed file systems; Amazon CloudFront for content delivery. - Databases: Managed relational databases via Amazon RDS (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and Amazon’s own Aurora); Amazon DynamoDB for NoSQL; Amazon Redshift for data warehousing; Amazon ElastiCache for in-memory caching. - Networking & Content Delivery: Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), load balancing services (ALB/NLB), Amazon Route 53 for DNS and traffic routing, and Direct Connect for dedicated network links. - Security, Identity & Compliance: AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), AWS Key Management Service (KMS), AWS Shield and Web Application Firewall (WAF), and a range of compliance, logging and auditing services that help customers meet regulatory and data protection requirements. - Analytics & Big Data: Amazon EMR for managed big-data frameworks, Amazon Athena for interactive query, Amazon Kinesis for streaming data, and AWS Glue for ETL and data cataloging. - Machine Learning & AI: Amazon SageMaker for building, training, and deploying ML models, plus a broad set of AI/ML services for vision, language, and forecasting. - Developer Tools & Application Services: AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, and CodeDeploy for CI/CD; API Gateway and AppSync for building APIs; Step Functions for orchestration. - Management & Governance: AWS CloudFormation and AWS CloudTrail for infrastructure automation and auditing, AWS Config for resource tracking, and AWS Organizations for account management. In addition to technical services, AWS India provides professional services, technical account management, support plans, training and certification programs, and partner enablement through the AWS Partner Network (APN). AWS also offers industry programs and solutions tailored to customers in financial services, healthcare, telecommunications, public sector, and other verticals. Customer engagement and ecosystem AWS India engages customers through direct sales, field engineering, professional services, and a large partner ecosystem that includes system integrators, managed service providers, independent software vendors (ISVs), and consulting partners. AWS runs programs for startups (such as AWS Activate), education (AWS Educate and Academy), and public sector initiatives designed to help organizations adopt cloud technologies while meeting local compliance and data residency needs. AWS also invests in local skills development through training, certifications, workshops, and events to help build cloud capabilities across enterprises and developer communities in India. Security, compliance, and operations AWS emphasises a shared-responsibility security model in which AWS manages the security of the cloud infrastructure while customers are responsible for securing their data and applications in the cloud. AWS provides a wide set of security, encryption, identity, and monitoring tools to help customers implement defence-in-depth architectures. For Indian customers, AWS supports compliance with relevant local standards and regulations and offers documentation and controls to aid customer compliance efforts. AWS operates a global network of physical infrastructure (regions and availability zones) designed for high availability and data durability; Indian customers can leverage regional infrastructure and local support to meet latency and regulatory requirements. Positioning and industry role As a leading cloud infrastructure provider, AWS competes in the global cloud computing market alongside other major providers. AWS’s offerings enable organisations to shift capital expenditure to operational expenditure, accelerate time to market for new applications, scale resources elastically with demand, and adopt modern software development practices. In India specifically, AWS plays a major role in enabling digital transformation across sectors — from enabling startups to scale rapidly, to supporting large enterprises’ cloud migrations and governments’ digital initiatives. AWS’s broad service portfolio, large partner ecosystem, and global footprint make it a central technology provider for organizations pursuing cloud-first strategies. Official online presence AWS publishes product, pricing, and compliance information, along with local India programs and customer success stories, on its official website and regional pages. The AWS website also provides resources for training, certification, developer outreach, and partner engagement that are relevant to Indian customers and technology organizations.
