Company Information

Company Name: Amazon Online Germany GmbH

Company Website: https://www.amazon.de

Company Address: Anni-Albers-Straße 21, 80807 Munich, Germany

Amazon Online Germany GmbH is a German-registered subsidiary operating as part of the global Amazon group, providing and supporting Amazon’s consumer-facing e-commerce, marketplace, digital services and related seller and logistics offerings in Germany. As a localized operating entity within the broader Amazon corporate structure, the company is principally associated with the operation and administration of Amazon’s German retail platform (amazon.de) and with enabling both direct retail sales and third-party marketplace activity to German consumers and businesses. Company overview: Amazon Online Germany GmbH functions as one of Amazon’s local corporate entities that manage and support Amazon’s online retail presence in Germany. The entity participates in the operation and administration of the Amazon.de storefront and associated customer-facing services, helps implement local commerce and fulfillment operations, and works alongside other Amazon affiliates to deliver digital and physical goods and services to customers in Germany. The Amazon group’s stated corporate mission—“to be Earth’s most customer-centric company”—is reflected in the company’s consumer-oriented activities and investments in customer service, selection, convenience and delivery within the German market. Core business activities: The company’s activities encompass multiple interrelated functions typical of a national e-commerce subsidiary. These include (1) retail sales of products directly to consumers across a broad range of categories (electronics, household goods, books, apparel, groceries and more); (2) operation and management of the Amazon.de marketplace where third-party merchants list and sell products to consumers; (3) provision and facilitation of logistics and fulfillment services, including programs that support storage, packing and shipping of seller inventory (commonly recognized by Amazon customers and sellers as “Fulfillment by Amazon”); (4) provision of subscription-based services to German consumers, most notably Amazon Prime, which combines benefits such as expedited shipping, access to Prime Video, Prime Music and other bundled digital benefits; and (5) support services for marketplace participants such as Seller Central, advertising solutions (Amazon Advertising) and analytical/seller tools that enable merchants to list products, manage inventory and reach customers on the platform. Main products and services: The company’s consumer-facing product set is broad and centered on online retail and digital content. Core offerings include: a) a wide assortment of physical goods sold either directly by Amazon or by third-party sellers through the marketplace; b) subscription services including the Amazon Prime membership in Germany (delivery benefits, video and music streaming, exclusive deals); c) digital content and platforms such as the Kindle e-book store, Prime Video streaming rights for acquired/licensed films and series available in the German market, and digital music and audio services where available; d) seller-facing services such as Fulfillment by Amazon (storage, fulfillment, returns handling), Amazon Marketplace tools for listing and selling, and advertising products to promote listings to shoppers; and e) customer service and returns handling tailored to the German consumer market. Business model and platform roles: Amazon Online Germany GmbH operates primarily as a platform operator and retailer. In the retailer role, it purchases and sells inventory directly to consumers. On the platform/marketplace side, it enables independent merchants to reach German customers via the amazon.de storefront, providing technical integration, payment processing, order handling and optional logistics services. The company’s revenue streams in Germany typically include retail margin on direct sales, commissions and fees from third-party sellers, fulfillment and storage fees, subscription fees from membership programs (e.g., Prime), advertising revenues from promotional products, and revenues tied to sales of digital content. Seller and partner ecosystem: A major part of the company’s operations is dedicated to supporting third-party sellers and business partners. Amazon’s German marketplace provides tools for onboarding, product listing, inventory management, order processing and customer communications. It also provides optional logistics (FBA) and promotional services. The company works with a large network of vendors, logistics partners and independent sellers to broaden selection and improve delivery times for German customers. Logistics, fulfillment and customer experience: To serve consumer expectations for fast delivery and reliable service, the company coordinates a mix of owned, leased and partner-operated fulfillment capacity in Germany, including fulfillment centers, sortation and delivery operations and last-mile delivery partnerships. These capabilities are coordinated to support expedited shipping options and return handling, particularly for Prime members and for products sold by or fulfilled through Amazon’s services. Customer service operations for german-language support are integral to local operations. Regulatory and local-market adaptation: As a Germany-based operating entity within a global group, the company adapts platform policies, data handling and consumer protections to comply with German and EU law. This includes compliance with local consumer protection rules, tax and invoicing requirements, product safety and labeling standards, and data protection obligations under European law. The company also frequently engages with local suppliers, content licensors and business partners to ensure the availability of regionally relevant products, media and services. Corporate role and integration: Amazon Online Germany GmbH acts in concert with other Amazon legal entities (European and global affiliates) to provide a seamless experience for German customers while leveraging centralized engineering, cloud, payment and product capabilities provided by the broader Amazon organization. This combination of local market execution and global platform support allows the company to operate a large-scale online retail and services ecosystem in Germany. In summary, Amazon Online Germany GmbH is a German corporate entity through which Amazon operates and supports a comprehensive online retail and marketplace presence in Germany, combining direct retail, a multi-vendor marketplace, logistics and fulfillment services, subscription and digital-content offerings, and seller tools and advertising products to serve consumers and merchants in the German market.
