Job Description

The mission

BenchSci is looking for a VP of Marketing to redefine what a marketing department looks like in the age of generative intelligence. You will own BenchSci’s brand, demand, and market position in biopharma R&D — and build the agentic infrastructure to power it, from scratch.

Success at the end of year one looks like

  • BenchSci is the definitive brand for AI in drug discovery. Scientists know us and executive buyers come to us. Our narrative shapes the category.
  • You’ve built the most efficient marketing function in biopharma SaaS — a Team of One directing a fleet of AI agents and autonomous workflows, delivering outcomes that would traditionally require a team many times the size.
  • Marketing is a measurable driver of lead generation — feeding Sales a consistent, qualified pipeline, not just running campaigns.
  • Both the brand outcome and the operating model matter. A beautiful agentic stack that doesn’t move the brand isn’t enough. A strong brand built through traditional playbooks isn’t enough either. This role exists because we believe both are possible at once — and we’re looking for the person who believes it too.
A note on structure: This is a “Team of One” by design, and you’ll build it from zero. You will not inherit a team, agencies, or contractor relationships — you will architect the agent workforce yourself. What you will have: a significant budget for best-in-class AI tools and infrastructure, deep partnership with Sales, Account Services, and our scientific team, a seat on the senior leadership team, and direct access to the CEO. We believe one person with the right judgment and the right tooling outperforms a traditional marketing org.

What you’ll own

  • Brand & positioning. Position BenchSci as the essential AI platform for scientific discovery, with narratives that resonate with both lab scientists and executive buyers.
  • Demand & lead generation. Accountable for marketing’s contribution to lead generation and pipeline. Partner with Sales to execute account-based marketing (ABM) at a scale with precision previously impossible, targeting key personas within top-tier pharmaceutical organizations.
  • ABM into top-tier pharma accounts.
  • The agentic marketing stack. Design, deploy, and operate a workforce of AI agents across content, SEO, performance, lead scoring, social, and market intelligence. You are the architect and the operator.
  • Strategy & execution. Set the annual marketing strategy and budget. Translate it into monthly plans with clear outcomes. Run the function end-to-end.
  • Market intelligence. Build autonomous loops that surface competitive landscapes, scientific literature, and industry signals that keep BenchSci ahead of the market.
  • Editorial judgment. You are the human layer above every agent workflow. Brand voice, scientific accuracy, and quality sit with you.
  • Cross-functional leverage. Work closely with Product Marketing, Sales, and Science. The shape of the function will evolve as the company does; you’ll help define it.

Who you are

  • AI-native operator: You don’t just use AI tools — you orchestrate them. You understand agentic frameworks, LLM orchestration, and how to automate multi-step marketing workflows end-to-end. You can describe the architecture, the failure modes, and the judgment calls.
  • Biopharma fluent: You speak the language of the lab. You understand the nuances of drug discovery, clinical timelines, and the realities of selling into pharma R&D.
  • A "full-stack" marketing leader: Since you are the sole human member of the team, you must be comfortable moving between high-level board strategy and the technical plumbing of your stack without losing signal.
  • Radically efficient: You have a natural disdain for traditional corporate bloat and a passion for proving that intelligence plus automation beats headcount every time.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in marketing leadership, with 3–5 years specifically in biopharma, life sciences, or HealthTech.
  • Proven track record of building brand awareness and category position in a technical B2B market.
  • A track record of pipeline ownership — accountable for revenue or pipeline contribution, not just campaign metrics.
  • Demonstrated experience building and operating AI-driven marketing workflows. You can walk us through the architecture you’ve built.
  • Exceptional communicator across scientific and executive audiences.
  • Comfortable operating without a team — you see it as leverage, not limitation.

Benefits and perks

  • A great compensation package that includes BenchSci equity options
  • A robust  vacation policy plus an additional vacation day every year
  • Company closures for 14 more days throughout the year
  • Flex time for sick days, personal days, and religious holidays
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits
  • Annual learning & development budget
  • A one-time home office set-up budget to use upon joining BenchSci
  • An annual lifestyle spending account allowance
  • Generous parental leave benefits with a top-up plan or paid time off options
  • The ability to save for your retirement coupled with a company match!

About BenchSci

BenchSci's mission is to unravel the complexity of disease biology for the betterment of patients. We do this by applying neuro-symbolic AI to unravel the black box of disease biology — the number one reason drug discovery projects fail.

Despite significant advancements, drug discovery still takes over a decade and billions of dollars — and 90% of clinical trials still fail. The core problem is getting the biology wrong before programs go to scale. BenchSci exists to fix that.

Our platform, ASCEND, is the world's first neuro-symbolic AI built for biopharma disease biology. It gives scientists clarity in hours or weeks that previously took months. Our platform is used by 9 of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies across 4,500+ research centers, and grew 247% over three years (Deloitte Fast 500, 2025). We've raised $200M+ from Generation Investment Management, Google's Gradient Ventures, TCV, and F-Prime.

Our culture

Our culture fosters transparency, collaboration, and continuous learning.

We value each other's differences and always look for opportunities to embed equity into the fabric of our work. We foster diversity, autonomy, and personal growth, and provide resources to support motivated self-leaders in continuous improvement.

You will work with high-impact, highly skilled, and intelligent experts motivated to drive impact and fulfill a meaningful mission. We empower you to unleash your full potential, do your best work, and thrive. Here you will be challenged to stretch yourself to achieve the seemingly impossible.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: We're committed to creating an inclusive environment where people from all backgrounds can thrive. We believe that improving diversity, equity and inclusion is our collective responsibility, and this belief guides our DEI journey.

Company Information

Company Name: BenchSci

Company Website: https://www.benchsci.com

Company Address: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

BenchSci is a technology company that develops artificial intelligence and machine learning software to accelerate biological and biomedical research by making experimental reagent and protocol information discoverable and actionable. The company’s core offering is an AI-powered reagent search and decision-support platform that helps life science researchers find validated reagents (particularly antibodies), interpret how reagents have been used in peer-reviewed experiments, and choose appropriate reagents and experimental conditions based on published evidence. BenchSci’s technology extracts and organizes experimental data from the scientific literature—figures, methods sections, and reagent lists—so researchers can locate instances of specific reagents being used in relevant assay types, species, cell lines, and experimental contexts. BenchSci’s primary business activities center on the development of automated knowledge extraction pipelines and enterprise software tailored for research scientists, pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, and academic laboratories. The company applies computer vision, natural language processing (NLP), and specialized machine learning models to parse millions of figures and text passages from peer-reviewed articles, mapping entities such as antibodies, genes, proteins, assays, and experimental conditions to metadata that supports evidence-based reagent selection. By converting unstructured literature content into structured, searchable data, BenchSci aims to reduce time wasted on reagent selection and reduce experimental failure due to poor reagent choice or ambiguous reporting. Key products and services delivered by BenchSci include a searchable reagent and experimental-evidence platform (often described as a reagent search engine or AI platform for life sciences) and enterprise integrations that embed literature-derived reagent intelligence into organizational workflows. The platform enables researchers to search by target (e.g., a specific protein), filter results by experimental technique (e.g., western blot, immunohistochemistry), species, cell line, antibody clone, vendor, and reported performance, and then view the original figures and excerpted methods where that reagent was used. This visibility into how reagents have been used in published experiments allows users to assess the experimental context, reported concentrations, dilutions, and other protocol details that are commonly buried in articles. The product is positioned as a tool to improve experimental reproducibility and to accelerate project timelines by surfacing high-quality, literature-backed reagent options. BenchSci operates as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider for customers in the life sciences sector, offering enterprise-level deployments and user management features that support teams at pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, diagnostics developers, and research institutions. In addition to individual researcher access, BenchSci’s offering can be integrated into procurement and vendor-selection workflows, enabling organizations to standardize reagent selection on evidence-based choices and to streamline interactions with reagent suppliers. The company also maintains relationships with reagent vendors and publishers to enable linking between product catalogs and literature evidence where appropriate. From a technology perspective, BenchSci emphasizes the use of deep learning, computer vision for extracting data from figures and images, and NLP to interpret methods and reagents mentioned in free text. The company’s platform aggregates and indexes extracted data to create searchable records that link back to source publications; this record-level evidence helps users quickly validate claims about reagent performance and provenance. BenchSci’s systems are trained on a large corpus of biomedical publications and are tuned to recognize domain-specific entities (e.g., antibody clone names, catalogue numbers, conjugates, host species) and experimental parameters relevant to wet-lab workflows. BenchSci’s target users include bench scientists running preclinical experiments, core facilities and lab managers responsible for reagent procurement, and research leaders at pharmaceutical and biotech companies focused on translational research and discovery. The platform is designed to complement laboratory expertise by reducing the time required to survey the literature for reagent use-cases, helping teams avoid common pitfalls such as purchasing reagents with insufficient supporting evidence or selecting reagents incompatible with planned assay conditions. On the commercial side, BenchSci supports enterprise customers with account services, training, and integration assistance. The company’s value proposition centers on lowering the rate of wasted experiments and accelerating experimental design cycles by surfacing evidence-backed reagent choices. BenchSci positions its product as part of a broader trend in life sciences toward digitization of experimental knowledge and the application of AI to unlock insights from the vast and growing body of published research. BenchSci is categorized at the intersection of software, artificial intelligence, and life sciences: it is a technology company focused on biomedical research enablement rather than a reagent manufacturer. Its offerings address pain points in experimental reproducibility and literature discovery, and its product set and services are oriented toward improving the efficiency and reliability of preclinical and translational research workflows. BenchSci’s platform is typically used by research organizations that require curated, evidence-linked reagent information to support high-throughput project timelines and rigorous experimental standards.
