Job Description

ABOUT GENERATION:

At Generation, we believe in the power of employment to change lives. We are a global nonprofit organization that supports adults to achieve economic mobility through employment. Generation trains and places adult learners of all ages into careers that are otherwise inaccessible, working in partnership with governments, employers, and other system actors. We also conduct original research and share data insights on high-priority global workforce transition topics to inform decision-making by workforce system stakeholders. Launched in 2015, Generation comprises a global hub (Generation You Employed, or GYE) and a network of in-country affiliates. To date, the network has 150,000+ graduates and 23,000+ employers across 50 professions and 17 countries.

When learners join Generation, 91% are unemployed, of which nearly half are long-term unemployed.  Three months after completing our program, graduates have a 78% job placement rate, rising to 88% within six months. Of our employed graduates, 79% are hired by repeat employers who have previously hired Generation graduates, and 89% are in jobs directly related to the profession for which we have trained them. Employed graduates immediately earn an average of 3-4X their previous earnings.  Two to five years after graduation, 77% of our alumni from upper-middle income countries continue to meet their daily financial needs and 63% can save for the future. To date, Generation’s global graduates have earned more than $1.9 billion in wages. Generation graduates typically have a secondary school background, 52% are female, 28% have dependents, and the majority identify with underrepresented communities in their country.

Position Overview:

Generation is in the midst of a period of growth and innovation, with plans over the next 18 months to dramatically increase the number of people we serve, deepen our existing partnerships around the world, and expand and enhance the global tools, curriculum, and offerings that help drive our mission forward. To meet this moment, we are expanding our team with a number of exciting global and regional opportunities.

This role is responsible for the operational execution and coordination of AI learning tool pilots across countries, ensuring that pilots are delivered on time, implemented as designed, and supported effectively at the country level. Working in close partnership with the AI Online Learning Lead, the role plays a critical part in turning strategy and pilot design into reliable, on‑the‑ground delivery.

A core focus of the role is ensuring disciplined and timely data collection throughout the pilot lifecycle. This role will work with country teams to ensure required data, evidence, and pilot inputs are captured consistently and on schedule, enabling robust evaluation of learning outcomes, instructor effort, and tool effectiveness.

The role will also support the onboarding and enablement of AI tools, ensuring instructors, delivery teams, and country leads are equipped to use tools confidently and correctly. The role will ensure that AI pilots run smoothly, insights are surfaced quickly, and execution risks are identified and addressed early.

This is a Fixed-Term, remote role in which we plan to interview from mid-late May.  This role will run approximately from June, 2026 through the end of March, 2027.

Company Address: New York, NY, United States

Generation is a global nonprofit organization that designs, delivers, and scales job training programs intended to connect people with employment opportunities in in-demand occupations, with a strong emphasis on technology and technology-enabled roles. Launched in 2014 as part of the McKinsey Social Initiative and later established as an independent nonprofit, Generation positions itself as a workforce development organization that builds employer-aligned curriculum and provides intensive, short-term training combined with career services and job-placement support. The organization’s stated objective is to help learners—often those who are unemployed, underemployed, or from communities historically overlooked by traditional hiring pathways—enter and retain good-quality jobs in sectors where employers report persistent talent shortages. Core business activities and services - Employer-aligned training programs: Generation develops and runs cohort-based training programs that are designed in close partnership with employers to meet specific hiring needs. Program areas commonly include software engineering and web development, data analytics, cloud operations and DevOps, cybersecurity, digital sales and customer support, healthcare support roles, and other technical and technology-adjacent occupations. Curricula are tailored to the skill profiles requested by hiring partners and often include hands-on project work and practical assessments. - Career services and placement: Beyond technical instruction, Generation provides career readiness coaching, résumé and interview preparation, employer matchmaking, and placement support. Programs typically include ongoing follow-up after placement to support retention and early-career progression. - Curriculum design and implementation: Generation builds modular, competency-based curricula and training methodologies intended for rapid deployment at scale. The organization offers both in-person and blended (online plus in-person) delivery models to reach learners in diverse geographies and contexts. - Partnerships and employer engagement: A core operational model is partnering directly with employers, industry groups, and hiring managers to co-create training standards and to secure job opportunities for graduates. These partnerships inform program content, evaluation metrics, and placement pipelines. - Measurement and outcomes tracking: Generation emphasizes outcomes measurement, tracking graduate employment rates, retention, and employer satisfaction to evaluate program effectiveness and iterate on program design. The organization publishes outcome data and case studies to demonstrate impact and to refine employer-aligned course offerings. Geographic footprint and scale Generation operates internationally, delivering programs across multiple countries and regions through a mix of its own country teams and local partners. The organization has historically expanded by piloting programs in a new city or country, adapting curricula to local labor-market needs, and scaling through partnerships with local service providers, governments, and employers. While the specific country list may change over time, Generation’s work has spanned regions including North America, Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. Business model and governance Generation operates as a nonprofit and finances its activities through a combination of philanthropic grants, government contracts, employer partnerships, fee-for-service arrangements in some markets, and other program-specific funding. Employer partners commonly contribute to program costs by paying for training slots or committing to interview and hire qualified graduates. The organization is governed by an independent board and operates national and regional program teams who manage recruitment, instruction, employer engagement, and alumni services. Approach to technology and pedagogy Generation’s instructional model combines competency-based curriculum design with practical, project-driven learning and employer-specified assessments. The organization leverages digital learning platforms and blended-delivery approaches where appropriate, incorporating online coursework, virtual labs, and remote mentorship alongside classroom instruction. Programs emphasize both technical skills (such as programming languages, analytics tools, cloud platforms, or cybersecurity fundamentals) and “soft” or career-readiness skills (such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving) that employers indicate are critical for job success. Target populations and inclusion Generation explicitly focuses on serving populations who face barriers to employment, including youth, displaced workers, women returning to the workforce, and other underserved groups. The organization’s recruitment and selection processes aim to identify motivated learners with aptitude for the targeted roles, regardless of prior formal education, and to provide supports—such as stipends, coaching, and wraparound services—designed to improve access and completion rates among learners who may face economic or logistical barriers. Evidence and impact Generation centers outcome measurement in its program model. It reports on graduate job-placement rates, time-to-placement, employer feedback, and early retention metrics to demonstrate program effectiveness and to inform continuous improvement. The organization also shares case studies and collaborates with external evaluators in some markets to validate results. Through employer partnerships, Generation pilots and iterates curricula to align training outcomes with real-world job requirements. Notable characteristics and positioning What distinguishes Generation from many traditional education providers is its tight coupling of curricula to employer needs, rapid-cycle program development geared toward short-term employment outcomes, and emphasis on scalable delivery models that can be adapted across diverse labor markets. While Generation’s focus includes a range of occupations, a significant share of its programs and employer demand is concentrated in technology and technology-enabled roles where skills gaps are acute. Sources and verifiability The foregoing description is based on Generation’s publicly stated mission, program descriptions, and organizational history as presented through its official communications and program materials.
