Job Description

1KOMMA5°

At 1KOMMA5°, we pursue a clear vision: Living on wind and sunlight forever for free. To make this a reality, we are building the energy system of the future with Heartbeat AI. Want to be part of it?

We bring together regional craftsmanship and scalable software: We don't think of solar, batteries, heat pumps, and e-mobility as isolated components, but control them as an intelligent, integrated overall system in our virtual power plant. Directly connected to the electricity market – in real time, fully automated. This way, energy is used when it is available from renewables and particularly cost-effective. By 2030, our goal is to transition 1.5 million households to renewable energies. Over 2,000 people are working towards this every day, at more than 80 locations worldwide, from Finland to Australia.

Want to take responsibility and build solutions that truly matter? Apply now and help us shape the energy world of tomorrow.

Your mission

We are looking for an AI-native designer working student to embed directly into our B2C mobile app team. You won't be doing side tasks; you'll be shaping our flagship consumer product, the Heartbeat app.

You can onboard and ideate quickly on complex technical energy concepts, prototype fast, and you've already figured out how to use AI as a force multiplier in your design workflow.
This role sits at the intersection of craft and impact. You'll own the full design loop — from shaping the problem, to shipping polished and production-ready app experiences.
As a Product Designer you will
  • Own end-to-end design for core app features — from discovery to delivery
  • Leverage AI to enhance every step of the design process
  • Elevate the product experience - you can take things from good to excellent
  • Run effective user research — interviews, usability tests, and surveys
  • Partner closely & proactively with PMs, engineers, and data scientists
  • Synthesise complex data into simple, elegant product decisions
  • Advocate for the user in a fast-moving, technical environment
  • Tools: Figma, Cursor, Notion, Linear
  • Skills: AI-First Design, Prototyping, User Research, UX Process, Data Visualization, Mobile App Design

Your profile

You don't need to tick every box — but this is the mold we're hiring for. If this profile sounds like the person you're becoming, we want to hear from you.
  • Educational background - you’re currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program program in User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction, or a related field
  • AI native — you use AI tools daily in your design process and can show us the work
  • Block-shaped — equally strong and curious in UX process, visual design, UI craft, and cross-functional collaboration
  • End-to-end ownership — you've taken features from 0 to 1, from messy problem statement to shipped product
  • Mobile app design fluency — you’re proficient in mobile app design patterns
  • High agency — you spot gaps and fill them without being asked
  • Builder mindset — you care about things being made, not just imagined
  • Excellent communicator — you bring clarity and efficiency to verbal & written communication; our working language is English; fluency in German is a big plus

Benefits

  • You are part of an international, dynamic, and highly motivated team of people who have proven to make things happen
  • With your work, you accelerate the "energy transition" and hence have a direct impact on our climate
  • Work with and learn from other super-smart colleagues
  • You will enjoy direct contact with core decision-makers
  • You will enjoy the best chances of entering full-time in one of Europe’s most thriving scaleups
  • You work remotely (Germany-wide), with offices in Hamburg, Berlin or Munich
  • Create a healthy balance alongside your work and enjoy all the benefits of the EGYM Wellpass
  • Benefits and discounts are yours with Futurebens
Company Information

Company Name: 1KOMMA5°

Company Website: https://1komma5.de

Company Address: Hyllie Boulevard 21, Malmö, Sweden

1KOMMA5° is a German climate-technology company that develops and operates digital products and services to accelerate the adoption of residential- and small-commercial-scale building electrification and distributed renewable energy. The company positions itself as an end-to-end provider that combines software, customer-facing services and a network of installation partners to simplify planning, financing, installation and ongoing operation of measures such as rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery storage, heat pumps and energy management solutions. 1KOMMA5°’s public materials describe the business as focused on removing friction for homeowners, landlords and housing providers when transitioning from fossil-fuel based heating and centrally supplied electricity to electrified, distributed and low-carbon alternatives. Company overview 1KOMMA5° operates a vertically integrated offering that blends a consumer-facing digital platform with project management and a partner network of certified installers and trades. The platform is used to assess building suitability for different technologies, generate tailored technical proposals and cost estimates, and present financing or subscription options for customers. Beyond initial sales and installation, 1KOMMA5° provides monitoring and service packages intended to ensure installed systems operate efficiently and deliver the expected emissions and cost benefits over time. Core business activities - Digital assessment and sales: 1KOMMA5° offers online tools and advisory services to help customers assess potential measures for their homes or buildings. These tools typically combine data sources (e.g., roof geometry, solar irradiation, building heat demand) with rulesets to size PV arrays, batteries and heat pumps and to estimate performance and economics. - Project management and coordination: The company coordinates the full customer journey from initial consultation through permitting, grid connection (when relevant), installation and commissioning. This reduces complexity for end customers by managing multiple trades and administrative tasks required for building-related electrification projects. - Installer and partner network: 1KOMMA5° works with a distributed network of certified installation partners, electricians and HVAC specialists to carry out physical installations. The company provides partners with leads, technical specifications and project coordination support, enabling local execution at scale. - Financing and commercial models: To overcome upfront cost barriers, 1KOMMA5° provides or brokers a range of payment options including purchase, leasing, and subscription models (operational leases) as well as access to third-party loans or subsidies where available. These financial offerings are designed to make investment in PV, battery or heat pump technology more affordable and predictable for consumers. - Monitoring, maintenance and service: Post-installation, 1KOMMA5° offers monitoring and maintenance services. The company’s software platforms are used to track system performance, detect faults and schedule service visits, and to provide customers with dashboards and usage insights that help optimize energy flows and savings. Main products or services - Feasibility assessments and quotations: Online/in-person evaluations that produce tailored proposals for PV, storage, heat pumps and energy management systems. - Turnkey installation services: End-to-end coordination of physical installations through partner networks, including civil works, electrical integration and commissioning. - Financing/subscription offerings: Consumer financing options, including purchase, loans, and pay-per-use or subscription models that bundle equipment, installation and service. - Energy management software: Customer-facing apps or web dashboards that present production, consumption and system health data; tools to optimize self-consumption and manage battery charge/discharge strategies. - Aftercare and maintenance: Service agreements to ensure operational reliability, warranty management and remote fault detection. Markets and customer segments 1KOMMA5° primarily targets homeowners, private landlords and small housing providers looking to decarbonize heating and electricity at the building level. The company’s model is applicable to single-family homes, multi-family residential buildings and small commercial properties where rooftop PV, heat pumps and battery storage can be deployed. The geographic focus is on German-speaking markets with an emphasis on simplifying local regulatory, permitting and subsidy processes that vary by region. Approach and technology use The company leverages digital mapping and building-data integration to pre-assess site suitability and to accelerate the design process. Its technology stack typically combines data ingestion (roof geometry, cadastral information, solar resource), engineering rules for equipment sizing, and customer-experience software to convert interest into contracted projects. By integrating financing and service elements into the offering, 1KOMMA5° aims to provide a one-stop-shop that reduces transaction costs and timelines for building electrification. Value proposition and mission 1KOMMA5° frames its value proposition around making low-carbon building technologies accessible and uncomplicated for end users — reducing the administrative and technical hurdles that have historically slowed adoption. The company emphasizes speed-to-deployment, transparent economics, and sustained operational performance through combined digital and physical services. In public statements and customer materials, the firm communicates a mission to help accelerate the energy transition at the building level by enabling broad uptake of electrification and distributed renewables. Partnerships and regulatory context To deliver projects at scale, 1KOMMA5° collaborates with local installers, financing partners and, where relevant, utilities and municipal authorities to navigate permitting and grid-connection processes. Because building electrification initiatives intersect with numerous local regulations and subsidy programs, the company’s offerings are tailored to local legal and incentive frameworks to maximize financial viability for customers. Note on sources and verification The above description summarizes the company’s publicly stated business model and typical product/service set as presented in official company materials and public-facing product descriptions. Specific product names, detailed pricing, financing terms and partner lists vary over time and by region and should be verified on the company’s official website or through direct contact for the most current information.
